Martha’s Vineyard, Massachusetts – 2025

If you’ve been a reader of the blog for a while, you’ll know that for the past few years, I’ve gone to Martha’s Vineyard with my sister and four of our girlfriends. 2025 marked year nine so I’m not going to give much of an intro here and just jump right in!

Our early morning drive to the ferry was uneventful, as was the ferry ride. Once we deboarded, we headed to Woodland Variety and Grill, a little convenience store that has breakfast sandwiches and such. They open early so that’s always our first stop. Afterwards, we headed over to The Grey Barn and Farm in Chilmark. This has been one of our favorite spots on the island for years and they have such yummy pastries. Sadly, the summer of 2025 was their last summer open. Due to inflation and the rising cost of goods, they found the farmstand wasn’t financially viable anymore. It’s a well-loved spot on the island so we wanted to get there early enough to get our favorite treats before they sold out. After getting our snacks from the farmstand, we headed over to our favorite beach to hang out for a bit.

Usually on our first day, we stay at the beach for a few hours, then head to the house to check in. So, this year, we went to the house and got inside, we realized that it hadn’t been cleaned yet, which was weird. We thought maybe the cleaners had a busy morning and hadn’t gotten there yet, so we went over to Island Alpaca to kill some time. After about another hour we went back to the house to check and saw it still wasn’t clean. By this time, it was well past check in time so my sister, Lauren, called her friend (who’s house we rent) and asked if she had heard from the cleaners. After a few calls, it turns out the cleaners had the day wrong and missed the house! So luckily for us, they ran over to the house to clean it. They were apologetic and handled it all very quickly and thoroughly though, so it was fine! After they left, we had our traditional first night dinner – tacos, guacamole and margaritas! We were all exhausted after the long day so we went to bed pretty early.

The next morning, we all woke up to a very gloomy morning. It wasn’t ideal for a beach day so we headed to the Martha’s Vineyard Museum, which we had added to our MV Bucket List the year prior. The summer of 2025 was the 50th anniversary of the Jaws movie, which was filmed around the Vineyard, so the museum had an exhibit to celebrate it. We had so much fun checking out the Jaws exhibit, and the other exhibitions featuring the history of the island. I would definitely recommend checking out the museum if you’re on the island! Since we were in Vineyard Haven for the museum, we decided to get lunch at The Black Dog Tavern, one of our favorite spots on the island. Then we did a little shopping in town before heading back to the house. After dinner, we decided to watch Jaws, to keep with the theme of the day. It was so fun!

Monday morning was beautiful out. We planned to go into Edgartown, rent bikes and take the ferry over to Chappaquiddick (aka “Chappy”), a smaller island off of the main island. The “ferry” from Edgartown to Chappy, is more like a tiny barge. It fit some pedestrians, bikers and only three cars. It took less than two minutes to cross on the ferry (you can actually see the ferry in the Jaws movie!). We planned to spend the day on Chappy, so we started by biking out to Mytoi Gardens to stroll around. It was small but pretty. Then we went to the beach down the street. We crossed the famous bridge where Ted Kennedy crashed his car in 1969 killing his passenger, Mary Jo Kopechne (RIP), which was interesting to see since it’s a well-known incident. Then we spent a few hours lounging at the beach. We loved the beach there so much and plan to go back in summer 2026, but will bring the car next time so we have our beach chairs and such. It was a little toasty out that afternoon so biking back across the island to the ferry was hot! After making it back to the main island, we spent the rest of the night hanging out at the house.

On our final day, we spent the morning at the beach near the house to soak up some sun. We had to go back to the house to clean up and pack before we caught the ferry. We had some time to kill before our ferry ride back to the mainland, so stopped at Offshore Ale House in Oak Bluffs for an early dinner. We also spent some time walking around the shops and such before we left.

It was another wonderful girls trip and we got to experience some new-to-us places on the island! I hope this inspires you to take a trip to Martha’s Vineyard soon.
