This is a moderately hard trail in central Maine and can be found on AllTrails. This is a classic New England hike but it’s easily one of the most beautiful I’ve done. The 360º views from the top are incredible. I’ve hiked this twice – both times in the summer. Both times I’ve stopped at Monson General Store prior to arriving at the trailhead to grab breakfast. This is a quintessential small town general store – it’s super cute and besides food and drinks, they also sell some gifts, crafts, souvenirs, etc. Monson is the last town thru-hikers hit before they begin the Hundred-Mile Wilderness of the Appalachian Trail.

During the summers the trail gets a little buggy but that’s to be expected in Maine. The summit is just shy of 2,000 feet. There are some metal rungs, railings and rock scrambling near the summit that may make this more difficult for some people, but I’ve seen people of all ages at the summit. One of my favorite parts about doing this trail in the summer is being able to pick blueberries off the bush for a nice snack.
If you are craving a post hike drink, a popular stop in Manson is The Lakeshore House. It’s right on the shore of Lake Hebron. It’s a pub but also offers lodging for thru-hikers if they want a warm place to sleep during their trek.

🥾 Approximately 3.7 miles round trip
⛰️ Approximate elevation gain 1,354 feet
🌲 Moderate to hard (depending on fitness level)
💰 $5.00 fee
🦮 No dogs allowed
🚽 Pit toilet available

While this destination may be out of the way, I definitely recommend adding this to your “to do” list if you’re in the area.
